Consignment Store

Consignment stores can be called different things such as thrift stores, electronic shops, gift shops, Internet selling assistant and antique stores. The idea here is the store keeps a percentage of the sale price for overhead and services rendered. Do your homework because some will take a higher percent than others.

Pros:

  • They do all the work including staging, promoting and selling.
  • They are professionals at knowing the market.
  • Have regular buyers who are looking specifically for this type of articles.
  • They have the equipment and staff to handle the sale.
  • They do the paperwork and handle the financials.
  • You get one check periodically.

Cons:

  • Seller pays a commission rate on sales.
  • Money not available until the end of the sales period. In most cases it is a month.
  • They have the right to reject any item for their consideration.
  • If an item is not sold it is either return to the seller or donated to charity.
